Overview
The VL53L5CX V2 Multi-Zone Time-of-Flight (ToF) Distance Sensor Module is a compact ranging module based on STMicroelectronics’ VL53L5CX sensor. It uses direct ToF technology to provide accurate absolute distance measurement across multiple zones, with a maximum sensing range of up to 4 meters.
Unlike conventional single-point distance sensors, the VL53L5CX supports an 8×8 sensing matrix with up to 64 measurement zones, allowing multiple objects and depth variations within the field of view to be detected simultaneously. With a wide 63° diagonal field of view and measurement rates up to 60Hz, it is suitable for robotics, obstacle detection, proximity sensing, gesture recognition and basic 3D depth applications.
The module operates from 3–5V and communicates through an I2C interface, making it easy to integrate with microcontrollers, embedded systems and robotic platforms.

Multi-Zone 3D Ranging
The key advantage of the VL53L5CX is its ability to obtain distance information from multiple areas simultaneously. In 8×8 mode, the sensor divides its field of view into 64 individual zones, with each zone providing its own distance measurement.
